A Guide to Birding with Binoculars

Walking the fine line between compact and full-sized, the Alpen Optics 8×34 Wings Waterproof Binoculars was designed to be your go-to optic for all outdoor activities in any weather conditions.

The 34mm objectives are ideal for birders and hunters who tend to get neck strain during long outings using larger 42mm models. The wide field of view reduces side-to-side head movement while the long eye relief and comfortable exit pupil makes the time you spend behind the eyepieces enjoyable. Utilizing an open bridge with dual hinges helps to reduce weight while providing ample room to wrap your hands completely around the optical tubes for a better grip.

Optical Performance

• Moderate 8x magnification brings subjects like players, architectural details, and birds in for close observation without narrowing the field of view or exit pupil
• 34mm objective lenses perform close to a full sized model with the portability of a compact
• Compact roof prisms contribute to the small housing size without compromising performance
• BAK4 prisms deliver a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
• Anti-reflection fully multicoated optics improve light transmission, color rendition, and contrast
• Short 8.2-foot close focus distance is ideal for making detailed observations of small subjects like birds, bees, insects, flora & fauna at feeders and flower beds
• Wide apparent angle of view minimizes the appearance of distracting hand-shake
• Spacious 406′ field of view at 1000 yards

Use and Handling

• Open bridge configuration reduces weight without sacrificing stability
• Large, slip-resistant center focus wheel is easy to manipulate in cold and wet weather, or when wearing gloves
• Right-eye dioptric correction ensures tack-sharp views
• Twist-up rubber eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear
